_JOB DESCRIPTION_
We have a position available for a detail-oriented individual who enjoys working in a fast-paced construction environment. This position is responsible for estimating and management of construction and paving projects throughout Southern .
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
To prepare thorough, accurate and timely estimates for both public and private sector structures projects, including the preparation of bid documents and the development of clear written proposals and correspondence.
Maintain a master schedule of incoming projects and assure successful bids are entered in the job cost system and monitor and flag cost overruns on projects and report to field and estimating staff on overruns. Monitor material, trucking and labor cost associated with project and make sure changes are current.
Identifies labor, material, and time requirements by studying proposals, blueprints, specifications, and related documents. Visits project sites when necessary.
Obtains bids from vendors and subcontractors by specifying materials, identifying qualified subcontractors, and negotiating prices.
Computes cost factors and prepares estimates. Coordinates estimates with field superintendents.
Executes contract agreements and assists with plan preparation and estimates.
Negotiates and prepares changes orders as necessary.
Conducts special studies to develop and establish standard hour and related cost data or effect cost reductions.
Tracks additional costs through force account sheets. Measures actual quantities as needed.
Confers with foremen and engineering personnel, inspectors and suppliers of tools and materials to resolve construction problems and improve construction methods.
Tours work sites to ascertain progress in meeting time schedules and to detect insufficient utilization of workers and equipment.
Inspects work in progress to ensure that work conforms to specifications and that construction schedules are adhered to.
Continuously strives to improve customer satisfaction (internal and external). Provides for on-time delivery and meets customer quality and cost expectations. Actively seeks customer interface. Communicates and facilitates customer needs within the organization. Meets commitments made to customers.
Maintains a professional approach when dealing with customers and employees. Shows honest and ethical behavior in business relationships and transactions. Resolves problems and conflicts in a timely and effective manner.
Performs other job related responsibilities and special projects as requested.
QUALIFICATIONS
This position requires experience in Estimating and Project Management for various types of construction projects. 5 years' experience is desired.
Must have ability to work effectively in a high pressure, multi-tasking environment, drive projects forward and meet or exceed deliverables.
Associates Degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management at a minimum is required.
Experience in HCSS, Bid2Win, Paydirt, Primavera software is a huge benefit, Excel and Word a must.
Familiarity with State of specifications along with heavy construction and paving is required. Knowledge of job costing and estimating techniques.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications and contracts.
Skills needed include leadership, problem solving, decision making and organization.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Professional ethics, tact, and courtesy in dealing with management, team members, vendors and internal and external customers.
Ability to travel as needed.
Position requires the ability to stand and walk over variable terrain.
_Other Information_ :
The selected candidate must be able to manage duties in a timely manner and be able to work independently. Long hours, night work, travel/overnights and/or weekend work may be required. The selected individual must display a courteous and professional attitude when dealing with co-workers and the public. A valid Driver's License and the willingness to travel throughout are essential for this position.
_Personal Protective Equipment_ :
Employees are required to wear personal protective equipment in designated operations and construction areas as outlined by OSHA, MSHA, and state agencies. Protective equipment that may be required, but not limited to, for this position: Hardhat, safety glasses, face shield, welding helmet, reinforced toed shoes, hand protection, respirator, air monitor, reflective safety vest.
